Abstract

This paper looks at outsourcing library and information processes and technical services primarily from the perspective of the selection criteria of outsourcing vendors or agencies. It first looks at why libraries outsource and how outsourcing organizations gain sufficient advantages out of it. Based upon literature review and practical experience, the authors outline some of the potential advantages and disadvantages in outsourcing arrangements and what can be done to minimize the hurdles.
