Abstract

The 37th International MATADOR Conference was organized by the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, with Prof. Srichand Hinduja and Prof. Lin Li as the Organising Secretary. It was held on July 25-27, 2012 at the Conference Centre of the university. MATADOR stands for Manufacturing (M), Automation and systems (A), Technology (T), Applications (A), Design (D), Organisation and management (O) and Research (R). On these fundamental areas, presentations and discussions were focused in this conference. This conference is considered to be one of the oldest conferences in the area of manufacturing that is continued till today. In recognition to this, the CIRP (International Academy of Production Engineering) has recently instituted a Best Paper Award among the papers presented in the MATADOR Conference. More than 100 papers were presented and published in this conference by the authors from 31 countries across the globe. There were sessions on Cutting/Machining, Machine Tool, Welding, Casting, Forming, Manufacturing Systems and Automation, Computer Aided Engineering and Design for Manufacture, Metrology, Laser Processing, ECM, EDM, Surface Modification, Rapid Prototyping, Additive Manufacturing and Micro/Nano Fabrication.
